The morning after...

After a good night sleep (or as good of a nights sleep as one can get with a 10 day old baby), I feel a lot better about our situation. I think it's important to let you all know that Brittney is in no danger of brain damage since we caught this so early. No one will be able to tell a difference between her and any other kid unless we tell them. She will live a full and healthy life, just on a different diet than most of us. Also, this condition isn't like diabetes, with spikes and crashes. It's the gradual buildup of phe in her system over a long period of time that can cause problems. If left untreated, we probably wouldn't notice any differences in Brittney for a year or more. She would develop normally for a long time before beginning a slow decline. However, that's not going to happen because we know what's going on early. She's safe and she feels perfectly fine, except for the occasional bout of gas.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers.

  1. I will definitely continue with prayers. God has certainly blessed you and Andy with a beautiful daughter who He will continue to watch over throughout her life. I can't wait to hold her.

  4. Lisa and Andy...I so understand being slammed with news of your first born...and she is beautiful...and things are treatable...and it will be nothing but norm to you in things calm down. I will tell you the flashback of going to the doctor stays in your head. Every time I take Bri to the Cardiologist, the fear is there, til they say all is well, and we take her home....I love you guys...and thinking bout you!!!

  8. Lisa, so happy for you and your wonderful family! Brittney is such a beautiful little angel and has the best parents (and grandparents) anyone could ask for! Definitely will pray for your situation as it unfolds and know that everything happens for a reason. You are so right about wanting to slow down time and just enjoy every minute with your new little person. 2 and 1/2 years have passed and I look back at the times so far and would not change a thing! It is also sad at times to think about your little baby being their own person and being independent when they get older and not needing you as much! Parenthood is an amazing gift that will be a learning experience everyday...God bless and good luck!
